Which process is suitable for cutting metal?

Metal cutting is one of the most common processes for which the machines from Eckert Cutting are used. When it comes to the fast and particularly precise cutting process of different metal workpieces, our cutting systems are exactly the right choice. Depending on the workpiece, different cutting processes are used to cut metals. At Eckert Cutting, we rely on state-of-the-art technology, advanced software and precise cutting.

The different cutting processes for metal

Few materials are as popular as metal. No wonder, because it is considered stable, robust and versatile in use. There are many different ways to reliably cut metal workpieces. Which method is best depends on various factors. For example, the type of metal itself and the cutting thickness, as well as the required cutting quality depending on the application.

Waterjet cutting of metal

Waterjet systems are particularly suitable for cutting metal. Waterjet cutting is more versatile than plasma cutting or laser cutting, whereby the individual systems can not only be individually expanded, but also impress in terms of cutting precision, efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Waterjet cutting enables a water jet that is 500 to 6000 bar strong and can cut effortlessly through metal when mixed with abrasives. The workpiece properties are not thermally altered, which is a major advantage over laser or plasma cutting. No wonder, because the metal is not heated.

Advantages of waterjet cutting

  • Precise

  • High repeatability

  • Effective technology

  • High level of professionalism

  • Customizable

  • Modern and intelligent software

  • Ease of use

  • Energy-saving

Processing metal with plasma cutting systems

The plasma cutting systems from our range are also ideal for cutting various metals. The plasma cutting system uses a special plasma arc that glides easily through different material thicknesses, allowing various metals to be cut precisely and quickly.

Advantages of plasma cutting

  • An enormously high cutting speed and the associated time savings

  • A particularly wide range of cutting thicknesses for work materials

  • A narrow heat-affected zone, which ensures that the workpieces are not damaged

  • Very short piercing times

  • Small cutting gap

  • Even thin materials can be cut without overburning

  • In contrast to other cutting systems, the investment costs are lower, making the purchase worthwhile even for smaller companies

Processing metals using oxy-fuel cutting

Oxyfuel flame cutting is one of the oldest cutting processes in the field of metal processing. Due to its many advantages and possibilities, the process will continue to enjoy great popularity in the future. We offer you the unique opportunity in Europe to buy everything from a single source and the fact that we offer you a large selection of oxyfuel flame cutting speaks for itself.

Advantages of autogenous flame cutting

  • Versatile use in multi-burner operation

  • High degree of automation at Eckert Cutting

  • Enables a wide range of different cutting thicknesses

  • Cutting of complex 3D applications, e.g. for weld seam preparation, is possible using a modern 3D head

  • Cost-effective cutting process

  • It is a very economical process

  • Low noise level, which makes operation in companies much more pleasant

  • Components are perfectly matched

  • Easy to use and highly convenient

  • Maximum security

  • Machines can be individually extended, for example with practical add-on tables through which dust and dirt can be extracted

  • The combination with other machines, for example for processing profiles and pipes, is also no problem

Metal cutting with the help of Eckert Cutting

Whether in the industrial sector or elsewhere, metal is required in many industries, but needs to be cut or processed before it can be used. Metal cutting is therefore indispensable in these sectors. However, it is often not easy for many companies to decide on a cutting process.

We will of course be happy to help you choose the right machines. It is not only important which workpieces currently need to be cut. Your future plans should also be included in the decision. Together, we will examine the products and your requirements and can then advise you on which machines are right for you.

If you have any questions about the individual cutting systems, please feel free to contact us. We will be happy to help you.

FAQ:

Pure water alone cannot cut through steel, as plain water is not hard enough. But with waterjet cutting, the water can be mixed with abrasives such as garnet sand. This massively strengthens the water jet so that steel and other hard materials can be cut precisely.

Which cutting method is the best depends on various factors. The type of metal itself, the cutting thickness and the required cutting quality all have an influence on this. The cutting speed can also play a role depending on the production volume.
