Air plasma in practice gys NEOcut 125 on Jantar CNC cutting machine

Air plasma cutting remains one of the most frequently chosen cutting technologies in manufacturing plants where operating costs, cutting speed and application flexibility are crucial. Eckert is expanding its product portfolio with GYS air plasma power sources, which complement the existing sources from the brands Hypertherm and Kjellberg.

At our Technology Center, we tested the GYS NEOcut 125 on a Jantar CNC cutting machine, performing a series of cuts on structural and stainless steel to demonstrate the capabilities of CNC air plasma cutting in typical industrial applications.

GYS plasma power sources: NEOcut series overview

The French company GYS has been developing solutions for the welding and plasma cutting industry for many years. The NEOcut series has been designed for stable, economical and repeatable cutting with air plasma.

GYS NEOcut power sources offer:

  • reliable and repeatable arc ignition,
  • stable cutting parameters,
  • low operating cost thanks to the use of compressed air,
  • easy integration with selected CNC systems.

Parameters of the GYS NEOcut series

The line of NEOcut plasma power sources from GYS includes several models that differ in power output and maximum cutting thickness. This allows you to select the source to match the specifics of a given plant:

Model Piercing Severance
Neocut 45 12 mm 30 mm
Neocut 70 15 mm 35 mm
Neocut 105 20 mm 50 mm
Neocut 125 25 mm 57 mm

In terms of their intended use, GYS NEOcut power sources are an interesting alternative to popular air plasma sources from brands such as Hypertherm and Kjellberg, especially in plants where steel is most often cut in the thickness range up to about 20–25 mm.

Air plasma vs. HD plasma – key differences

In many manufacturing applications, the question arises: should you choose an air plasma system or an HD (High Definition) plasma system? The answer depends on the expected edge quality, investment budget and operating costs.

HD plasma uses gas mixtures, provides a very narrow kerf and minimal taper, resulting in high dimensional accuracy. Air plasma, on the other hand, offers a very good compromise between cut quality, operating cost and ease of use.

Feature Air plasma HD plasma
Working gas Compressed air Gas mixtures (O2, N2, Ar/H2)
Operating cost Low Higher
Edge quality Good Very high
Taper Moderate Minimal
Kerf Standard Narrow
Application General manufacturing High-precision parts
Operation Simple More demanding

Examples of cutting with GYS NEOcut 125 on a Jantar CNC cutting machine

While working at the Eckert Technology Center, we performed a series of demonstration cuts on a Jantar CNC cutting machine equipped with a GYS NEOcut 125 power source. For the video, we prepared parts made from the following materials:

  • S235JR structural steel – 5 mm,
  • S235JR structural steel – 8 mm,
  • stainless steel 1.4301 – 10 mm.

In the video, we show the actual cutting speeds and other process parameters, as well as the appearance of the cut edge. This makes it possible to see how the plasma arc behaves and what results can be achieved in typical production applications.

Why choose GYS NEOcut power sources?

GYS NEOcut power sources have been added to Eckert’s standard offer as a complement to the solutions from Hypertherm and Kjellberg. This allows customers to select a plasma source that matches their needs in terms of budget, thickness range and required quality level.

For many manufacturing plants, GYS NEOcut air plasma will be a particularly good choice if:

  • most cutting operations involve steel in the 3–20 mm range,
  • low operating cost and ease of operation are important.
