New Taper X 3D water head in Eckert product range
The new Taper X 3D tilt-head waterjet support in the Eckert range is even faster and more precise waterjet cutting for waterjet machines in our lineup. Now customers can order a waterjet cutting machine, Opal Waterjet or Opal Waterjet Combo equipped with the innovative Taper X 3D tilting waterjet head. What benefits does this bring to efficiency and lower production costs?
Even faster and more accurate waterjet cutting
One of the challenges facing waterjet machine manufacturers is the problem of taper compensation, which is the adjustment of the cutting angle. The water jet can cause a tapering effect on the edge, which affects the quality of machining. Slower cutting reduces taper, but increases machining time and thus costs. Modern CNC waterjet machines, especially those equipped with 5-axis control systems, automatically adjust the cutting angle, ensuring perfectly perpendicular edges.
To achieve perfectly perpendicular edges, it is necessary to cut at a minimum angle, which is referred to as taper compensation. On the other hand, to prevent blurring of corners, the water jet is precisely adjusted at the right angle.
With traditional rotary kinematics, the cutting process is stopped at the corners, which compromises the quality of machining. The Taper X 3D system, however, is equipped with the world's most versatile 5-axis kinematics, which enables 45-degree beveling and cutting angle compensation.
The Taper X 3D system allows for a significant reduction in working time while eliminating the problem of tapered edges thanks to its advanced cutting angle compensation function. Thanks to its innovative design, the Taper X 3D cutting head makes only minimal movements of a few degrees to correct the cut, while a traditional rotary head requires a full rotation to achieve the same effect.
Ideally straight waterjet cutting edges
In summary, an investment in a waterjet machine equipped with a Taper X 3D head is:
- Increased cutting dynamics - reduced number of movements compared to rotary heads reduces the time to cut complex contours by up to 30%.
- Increased precision - reduced number of head movements provides much more accurate cutting and eliminates the problem of non-perpendicular edges.
- Higher productivity and shorter machining time - thanks to the smooth movement along the cutting line, the travel distance of the head is shorter, allowing you to maintain a high cutting speed while maintaining consistent quality.

Taper X 3D head height control sensor
The Taper X 3D is equipped with a pneumatic contact ring that automatically adjusts the cutting height to the thickness of the workpiece. Once the cutting head is set at the correct height, the adjustment ring moves to the park position, preventing damage when cutting at an angle.
