ECKERT MULTITORCH system: making optimum use of materials

In order to produce efficiently, cutting waste must be kept to a minimum. Every unused material as scrap causes avoidable costs. The conversion of cutting machines from NC (Numerical Control) to CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) has already enabled the first steps to be taken towards better material utilization. ECKERT MULTITORCH now goes one step further and offers the latest technology for perfect material utilization.

Plasma cutting, waterjet cutting and  autogenous flame cutting - all of these modern cutting technologies benefit from ECKERT MULTITORCH. It is the system that fully automatically configures the optimum material utilization for the cutting process.

Eckert Cutting offers the option of equipping its CNC cutting machines with the ECKERT MULTITORCH system.

Reduce material waste to a minimum

Every user of cutting machines knows the problem: after cutting parts, there is always a certain amount of waste material left over. However, this so-called scrap cannot be completely avoided. In order for parts to be produced in the desired quality, a certain distance is required between them, depending on the cutting process and material, so that subsequent cutting processes do not influence each other.

In particular, if many of the parts to be cut have complex shapes, the requirements for avoiding rejects are very high. The parts must be optimally placed on the material base.

Technologies such as CAD programs support the CNC machine operator in finding a better placement on the cutting template for the individual workpieces. But even here, optimal use of the materials is not guaranteed. The operator of the cutting machine still defines the template and usually retains a certain pattern. In doing so, he pays particular attention to ensuring that he works with the specified constellation of cutting heads for as long as possible and maintains the distances between them.

The pattern may be clear at first glance, but it is far from optimal material utilization. However, the fully automatic ECKERT MULTITORCH system turns away from this pattern and places the workpieces on the material in such a way that as little waste as possible remains. This leaves a larger usable surplus of material, which is also suitable for further cutting processes without placing additional strain on the machine operator. This also significantly reduces machine downtime.

Example: How you save money with ECKERT MULTITORCH

In this video, Eckert Cutting shows you exactly how ECKERT MULTITORCH works.

While only 4.7% of reusable material remains in the example using the standard process, with ECKERT MULTITORCH this is already 12% of the total footprint. In the example, up to 360 kilograms of material can be saved via Torch compared to the standard CNC process.

ECKERT MULTITORCH not only adapts automatically to the cutting process, but also to the most important materials that can be processed with it:

The system automatically selects the appropriate distance between the workpieces depending on the material so that the cutting quality is kept at a consistently high level. This reduces waste to a minimum and significantly reduces processing time.

Why use ECKERT MULTITORCH

The advantages of ECKERT MULTITORCH are obvious. Better use of the material means that more parts can be produced from one sheet than with a standard CNC cutting process. At the same time, there is less waste, which also results in disposal costs.

However, the MULTITORCH system offers many more advantages than just more efficient, material-saving and therefore more cost-effective production.

All Eckert Cutting machines are equipped with independent Y-axis drive motors and automatic PLUS gas consoles. They provide the basis for ECKERT MULTITORCH to carry out a precise cutting process. The torch distance can also be automatically adjusted to the respective task with high precision and in the shortest possible time.

The entire cutting process is not only planned by ECKERT MULTITORCH, but also implemented fully automatically using the cutting machines from Eckert Cutting. The machine operator no longer has to constantly check and monitor all cutting parameters.

This also improves safety. The cutting process is monitored by sensors that recognize every situation and can stop the cutting process if necessary. Manual operation of the cutting machine is reduced to a minimum.
